Poetry for the Blind

How often do we reflect on the life we are living or the kind of future we are heading towards as a species?

The way that we think of the world shapes the world that we live in and how we interact with it.

Poetry for the Blind is a collection of poems about issues in the world, philosophy, consciousness, raising awareness of gratitude, promoting positive change, and concerns for the future of humanity.

Through poetry, this book offers readers a way to explore the human condition through the eyes of the author and reflect on issues affecting the collective consciousness residing in human lives on a mass scale. Through turmoil and devastating circumstances, Poetry for the Blind progresses towards a sense of possibility and hope for a positive future—a future that we can still have.

We have the power to change the world but we have to start with ourselves first.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Embark on a thought-provoking journey with Poetry for the Blind, a mesmerising collection that unveils society's unseen struggles through the eloquent verses of climate change, human-machine fusion, simulated reality, and more; where each verse acts as a mirror reflecting the blindness of our society towards pressing issues.

Unearth the layers of meaning in poems like "Succession”, where the destructive dance of progress and profit is laid bare—climate change, deforestation, and the scars of industrialisation. Witness the poet's call to restrain the path of mass extinction, a pioneer of succession in the regions where life struggles to endure.

The poem "Machines" invites you to ponder the transformation of humanity into a complex organism of steel and circuitry. As bodies become replaceable, and minds are controlled by technology, the verses question if we are losing the essence of our humanity. Explore the blueprint of our biology, where corrective surgery and gene manipulation lead us down a path where man merges seamlessly with machine.

Step into the intriguing world of "Simulation", where reality blurs with illusion. Follow the poet's exploration of an overarching matrix, hidden instructions in code, and the tantalising question—Are we fulfilling a higher purpose, or are we merely subjects in a technologically woven dream? Peel back the layers of simulated reality and challenge your perception of existence.

Poetry for the Blind is not just a collection of verses; it's a journey through the shadows of our collective consciousness, urging us to open our eyes to the blind spots that cloak our understanding of the world. Don't just read; experience the awakening, unravel the illusions, and rediscover the power of sight in the realm of poetry.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

At first, the words of Atmos seem cold and clinical – but it’s only in the days since I first read them that I realise the effectiveness of them, and how appropriate a metaphor that is. Like a surgeon’s scalpel, they’re designed to pierce and get under the skin – and many of them will do exactly that, demanding that they be revisited and re-evaluated. Spanning the breadth of human experience, there’s barely a topic not touched upon in this collection.

Poetry for the Blind is an elegant work where the order of the poetry is as relevant as the words in the poems themselves; Atmos’s writing makes for a well-thought-out journey. Some of the destinations may make us uncomfortable – and make for some intimidating introspection – but each waypoint is essential, and this is the true majesty of the work.

Many of the pieces may at first glance seem nihilistic, but there’s a welcome optimism to be found here as well – a strong belief that we’re all capable of bettering ourselves and, by extension, the society around us. It’s an impressive collection indeed, and I look forward to seeing his thoughts collected in such a manner again.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Let’s talk about the cover first - I won’t lie - this is what intrigued me first. A beautiful and striking piece of art - with a clever pun for the title.

This collection certainly does open your eyes to many worldly issues such as war, famine, humans taken over by machines and politics. Atmos does not shy away from any controversy and addresses these issues with purpose and passion in all of his poems.

The quote by Selwyn Duke at the beginning, really captures the essence of this thought-provoking collection;

“The further a society drifts from the truth, the more it will hate those who speak it.”

But please don’t think that this book is all ‘power to the people–us against the world’, as there are many that inspire, encourage and promote positive change and raise awareness of gratitude too.

Pieces that I found really powerful and well written were;

“Identity” - which raises awareness of how pressures make you feel - wanting to ‘fit in’ and the stigma that’s attached with this.

“Symbols” - is so powerful. Loved the repetition and rhythm that emphasises many of the worldly issues associated with them.

“Abandonment” - wow - the raw emotion in this!

“Perception” - this is my favourite one out of the collection - truly relatable.

“War” and “Machines” are truly thought-provoking pieces too.

There is a strong sense of hope throughout this collection–reminding us all that we can change things–starting with ourselves. A highly recommended read–one that I will keep returning to.

I was lucky to receive my copy of this collection of poems via winning one in a competition and the poems within are so spiritual and very symbolic of not just their titles BUT in how they show their strength in their words combined.

WOULD recommend it to others!!!

Atmos' Poetry for the Blind is, what I believe [to be], the best social conscience raising book of verse that I have read. I believe it is a must read for all poetry readers. It asks important questions of us all. It covers a multitude of subjects in an easily readable format. I can not say enough good things about this great book!
